Project Description

Woolgoolga to Ballina (W2B)

This project will upgrade approximately150km of Pacific Highway between Woolgoolga and Ballina, incorporating re-use of existing highway, duplication of new highway, numerous grade separated interchanges as well as property and temporary works. Pacific Complete were appointed to act on behalf of RMS, and was made up of WSP and Laing O’Rourke.

ROLE

Alignment lead engaged by Pacific Complete, to act on behalf of the client RMS, to oversee and approve detail design being undertaken by 4 JV consultancies. These included, Arcadis, Becca, GHD, Arup, Cardno and SMEC. Responsibilities included:

  • Technical review and approval of 150km of Pacific Highway detail design packages;
  • Construction Staging designs across the project for Preliminary Design;
  • Temporary works design and documentation;
  • Worked closely with senior RMS representatives, developing relationships and gaining trust.

ADDED VALUE

  • Approx. $5m saving in construction and programme at Maclean Interchange. This was developed by challenging the contract and design speeds at this location, with constructability, soft soils and programme key to decision making;
  • Review of all design packages across the project for not only a conforming design, but one that reduced construction cost and programme. Significant savings were identified and implemented;
  • Earthworks cut/fill optimization;
  • Developed key relationships across all 4 Design JV’s, as well as the construction team.
