Woolgoolga to Ballina (W2B)
This project will upgrade approximately 150km of Pacific Highway between Woolgoolga and Ballina, incorporating re-use of existing highway, duplication, 7 grade separation interchanges, soft soil and geotechnical issues as well as significant earthworks excavation and optimisation.
ROLE
Alignment lead engaged by Pacific Complete, to act on behalf of the client RMS, to oversee and approve detail design being undertaken by 4 JV consultancies. These included, Arcadis, Becca, GHD, Arup, Cardno and SMEC. Responsibilities included:
- Successfully reviewed and approved 150km of Pacific Highway design packages;
- Completed all Construction Staging designs through Preliminary Design;
- Worked closely with senior RMS representatives, developing relationships and gaining trust.
ADDED VALUE
Significant construction and programme savings through the Maclean Interchange, up to $5m was;
- Challenged design scope to reduce design speed between the roundabouts of grade separated interchange from 60km/hr to 50km/hr;
- Allowed tighter vertical curve over mainline;
- Allowed permanent road to tie in with Existing Pacific Highway through construction, reducing significantly the number of temporary roads, traffic diversions and programme through this soft soil area which required significant pre-load
