Airport Drive Extension Tender

This project will provide a second major entry to the Melbourne Airport, and consists of a 3.3km four lane divided road, with the provision to extend to 6 lanes. The works also include a shared pedestrian and bike path adjacent to Airport Drive.

ROLE

  • engaged by John Holland to support its project team through the Tender Phase of this Construct Only project;
  • 3d analysis of Detail Design information to quantify the cut-fill volumes;
  • Worked with Geotechnical Consultant to model underground rock layers to identify the amount and type of rock to be excavated.

ADDED VALUE

  • Through detail modelling of rock layers, a significant reduction in rock to be excavated was identified;
  • Allowed the project team to develop a detailed cost schedule and mass / haul diagram;
  • 3d design works allowed the contractor to understand the earthworks handling better, and lower the overall risk associated to the project;
  • John Holland was awarded the project which was highly successfully and delivered within time and cost objectives.
