Airport Drive Extension Tender
This project will provide a second major entry to the Melbourne Airport, and consists of a 3.3km four lane divided road, with the provision to extend to 6 lanes. The works also include a shared pedestrian and bike path adjacent to Airport Drive.
ROLE
- engaged by John Holland to support its project team through the Tender Phase of this Construct Only project;
- 3d analysis of Detail Design information to quantify the cut-fill volumes;
- Worked with Geotechnical Consultant to model underground rock layers to identify the amount and type of rock to be excavated.
ADDED VALUE
- Through detail modelling of rock layers, a significant reduction in rock to be excavated was identified;
- Allowed the project team to develop a detailed cost schedule and mass / haul diagram;
- 3d design works allowed the contractor to understand the earthworks handling better, and lower the overall risk associated to the project;
- John Holland was awarded the project which was highly successfully and delivered within time and cost objectives.
